AYUDA
WBAF Foundation’s grant helps Ayuda continue their life-saving work with immigrant victims of domestic violence and their children. At the start of the grant, Ayuda provided legal and social services to battered immigrants through an open door policy, at their DC office only. Ayuda now also offers walk-in assistance to immigrant victims on Mondays and Wednesdays at their office in Sterling, VA.

 

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEGAL EMPOWERMENT AND APPEALS PROJECT (DV LEAP)
WBAF Foundation’s grant helps DV LEAP’s continuation and expansion of legal representation to domestic violence victims. In addition to continuing to provide consultation and representation in DC cases and appeals, DV LEAP has further developed their collaborative activities with both the local domestic violence community and the U.S. Attorney’s Office with respect to both litigation and legislative reforms.

DC VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT (DCVLP)
WBAF Foundation’s grant helps DCVLP increase the number of experienced, trained attorneys providing pro bono representation to indigent clients in the area of family law. DCVLP provides the necessary resources for these attorneys, including malpractice insurance, office space, online research tools, training programs and mentoring/supervision.

INTERSTAGES
WBAF Foundation’s grant supports Interstages’ daily afterschool youth development program for middle school girls in Southeast Washington, DC. In its fourth full year, their program provides academic, creative, social, and personal growth opportunities for girls in grades 6, 7, and 8 who live in some of Washington’s most poverty-stricken communities.

LEGAL COUNSEL FOR THE ELDERLY (LCE)
WBAF Foundation’s grant supports LCE’s “Alternatives to Landlord/Tenant Court Project.” The project provides holistic solutions to prevent evictions, displacements, and homelessness of the city’s low-income, elderly tenants. They achieve this by delivering a combination of legal representation, policy advocacy, clinical social work services, and volunteer de-cluttering assistance for seniors at risk of eviction.

POLARIS PROJECT
WBAF Foundation’s grant supports Polaris Project’s DC Trafficking Intervention Program, which provides comprehensive services to women and girls victimized by human trafficking. The services provide case management, client support groups, individual therapy, job training, crisis intervention, and transitional housing.

SISTERMENTORS, EDUSEED
WBAF Foundation’ss grant helps fund SisterMentors’ four-day annual college visit, which takes place every spring break. EduSeed’s SisterMentors program is an innovative project that mentors girls of color from low income families in elementary, middle, and high schools in the Washington DC area.

SURVIVORS AND ADVOCATES FOR EMPOWERMENT (SAFE)
WBAF Foundation’s grant supports SAFE’s work providing crisis intervention and systems advocacy to domestic violence survivors in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Their work helps survivors achieve the safety and stability that they need to initiate the difficult process of separating themselves from an abusive partner.

WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS (WMSG)
WBAF Foundation’s grant assists WMSG’s Graduate Support Program, which provides guidance to all WMSG students in choosing and applying to high schools and throughout their post middle school education. The program is tailored to meet the unique challenges of young girls who have been underserved by their local community and schools.
