Board Opportunities
The WBA Foundation invites supporters who are interested in being considered for nomination to the Board of Directors to reach out to us.
Board members serve 3-year terms, and are eligible to serve for two consecutive terms. Board appointments are made in the spring, and board service begins in June. The board meets monthly, with at least three in-person meetings and all accessible via Zoom. Board members also serve on board committees – Executive, Finance, Development, Grants, Internal Audit, Wine Tasting & Silent Auction, and Social Media – and work on special projects.
WBA Foundation board membership is open to attorneys and non-attorneys, and is not limited to women. All WBA Foundation board members are expected to be WBA members during their WBA Foundation board service.
Board members are expected to support and participate in WBA Foundation’s signature events – the fall wine tasting and silent auction, the spring grant awards ceremony reception, and the annual dinner jointly sponsored with the WBA in the spring. WBA Foundation board members are also expected to be ambassadors for the foundation by attending WBA and other community events and promoting the WBA Foundation to their networks.
Because the WBA Foundation is a fundraising entity, board members work to ensure the long-term financial viability of the organization by identifying and soliciting potential sponsors for signature events, identifying and soliciting individual and institutional donors, and making personal financial contributions, which includes a $1,200 “give or get” commitment by each board member.
The WBA Foundation is committed to fostering inclusiveness, and to reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the DC legal community. This is a hard-working but fun Board! Because our needs change from year-to-year, the Nominating Committee is considers expressions of interest on an ongoing basis. If you are interested in being considered for the Board, email our Executive Director, Carol Montoya, at carol@wbadc.org.

Wine Tasting & Silent Auction
This committee plans the annual fundraising wine tasting event, proposes any event presenters, and handles every aspect of the event, including soliciting auction items and sponsors. They typically meet mid-day on Mondays, once a month through May, then weekly.
Fundraising & Development
This committee is charged with developing enhanced and new fundraising initiatives, including, but not limited to, creating/updating a brochure that presents opportunities for firms, corporations, individuals and other foundations to include the WBA Foundation in plans for one time and annual donations. This committee also supports the Social Media Committee in drafting language promoting online fundraising such as for Giving Tuesday, Do More 24/spring fundraiser, and the Year End Appeal. They meet the third Thursday of the month, 4:00-4:30pm.
Social Media
This committee works with staff on social media outreach. The committee finds ways to amplify posts and activities through reposting or generating new content. They meet the second Tuesday of the month, 12:00-12:30pm.
